This is the Personal Blog of Anthony J. Marella; the artist who has created the hand made chess sets we feature on this site – and at our RETAIL Store…
This was a great weekend, now that the holidays are behind me. I was able to finish all pieces up to the first stage of finishing, except for the kings. I must finish this chess set before I can start my next master piece, the red oak set. I can not wait to build the board because, I have some nice router bits and great ideas to try.
I have a question for anyone out there in cyber-space, who has experience in working with red oak. when I build the board, everything will go with the grain, but when I turn the chess pieces, it will be against the grain. Therefore; my question is: will the wood pieces look very different from the board ?
